The U.S. ranks 134th for government commitment to education

According to the United Nations Children’s Fund, in the United States, three percent of the central government budget is allotted to education, making the United States tied for one hundred and thirty-fourth (with Belgium, Guinea-Bissau, and Nigeria) in that category. Benin ranks first in that category, with 31% of the central government’s budget allotted to education. The world average is five percent, and the average for industrialized nations is four percent.


The U.S. ranks 36th in enthusiasm for global trade

According to the 2003 Pew Global Attitudes Project report, “Views of a Changing World,” 21% of Americans believe that global trade is “very good” for their country. This makes the U.S. rank thirty-sixth out of forty-four nations polled. Nigeria ranked first, with 67% of Nigerians believing that global trade is “very good” for their country. Interestingly, the top five countries are all in Africa.
