The U.S. ranks 3rd in tobacco planting
According to the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, in 2009 the United States planted 143,320 hectares of tobacco, or 6.0% of the world’s total tobacco planting. That was enough to make the United States rank third in that category. China ranks first, planting 1,400,703 hectares, or 58.6% of the world total.
