The U.S. ranks 62nd in prevalence of HIV

According to the World Bank, 0.6% of the U.S. population between the ages of 15 and 49 had HIV in 2007, which makes the United States tied for sixty-second with Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Switzerland, St. Lucia, and Uruguay in that category. Swaziland ranks first, with 26.1% of the population between the ages of 15 and 49 living with HIV.

In the world as a whole, 0.8% of the population between the ages of 15 and 49 are living with HIV.

The U.S. ranks 16th in women with HIV

According to UNICEF’s The State of the World’s Children, 2009, there are an estimated 230,000 women over the age of fifteen living with HIV in the United States. That is enough to make the United States rank sixteenth in that category. South Africa ranks first, with an estimated 3,200,000 women living with HIV.

The U.S. ranks 30th in HIV/AIDS deaths

According to the CIA World Factbook, an estimated 17,011 people died of HIV/AIDS in the United States in 2005, making it rank thirtieth in that category. South Africa ranks first in HIV/AIDS deaths.

According to the CIA World Factbook, in 2003 the United States ranked tenth out of 163 countries in terms of people living with HIV/AIDS.
