The U.S. ranks 14th in arts participation

According to the World Values Survey, 15.1% of Americans are actively involved in an arts, music, or education association, which makes the United States rank fourteenth out of fifty-four countries ranked in that category. New Zealand rans first, at 25.5%.

The U.S. ranks 13th in arts funding

According to the Canada Council for the Arts, in 2003 the American government distributed the equivalent of 44¢ (Canadian) per capita in public arts grants, which made the United States rank thirteenth out of thirteen countries in that category. Sweden ranked first, distributing $28.38 (Canadian) per capita in arts grants.

The U.S. ranks 2nd in Nobel Laureates (literature)

According to wikipedia, the United States has had eleven Nobel Laureates in literature, which makes the United States rank second in that category. France ranks first, with fifteen Nobel Laureates in literature.
