The U.S. ranks 1st in hops

According to data from FAOstat in 2009, the United States produced 42,945 tonnes of hops, or 31.4% of the world’s total hop supply. That is enough for the United States to rank first in that category.

According to the Kirin Institute of Food and Lifestyle, in 2008 Americans consumed 14.1% of all the beer in the world, which is enough to make the United States rank second in that category. China ranks first, consuming 22.9% of the world’s beer.

The U.S. ranks 16th in beer supply

According to the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, in 2007 the United States had a beer supply of 236.71 grams per person per day, which makes the United States rank sixteenth in that category. The Czech Republic ranks first, with a beer supply of 405.05 grams per person per day.

According to the 2007 Canadean report, Global Beer Trends, in 2006 the United States consumed 236,442,000 hectalitres of beer, which made the United States rank second in that category. China ranked first, consuming 346,366,000 hectalitres of beer.

The U.S. ranks 2nd in beer production

According to the Barth-Haas Group, in 2005 the United States brewed 230,245,000 hectalitres of beer, making the U.S. rank second in that category. The biggest beer producer, China, brewed 306,156,000 hectalitres. The top five beer producing countries–China, the United States, Germany, Brazil, and Russia–accounted for 52% of the total global beer production in 2005.

The U.S. ranks 13th in drinking beer

According to Kirin Holdings Company, Limited, in 2004 the United States ranked thirteenth out of 35 countries in per capita beer consumption. The Czech Republic ranked first.
