The U.S. ranks 1st in new businesses

According to the World Bank, in 2005 (the most recent year for which such data is available) there were 676,830 new businesses registered in the United States, which amounted to 16.3% of all new businesses registered in the ninety-one countries included in the ranking. This was enough to make the United States rank first in that category.

According to the World Resources Institute, it costs 0.7% of the per capita Gross National Income (GNI) to start a new business in the United States, which makes the United States rank one hundred and seventy third in that category. Sierra Leone ranks first, with a new business cost of 1075.2% of the per capita GNI.
