According to the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, in 2009 the United States produced 4,939,422 tonnes of cheese, or 25.5% of the world’s total cheese produced, enough for the United States to rank first in that category.

According to the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, in 2003 Americans ate 15 kilograms of cheese per capita, which made the United States tied for twelfth in that category, with Finland, Iceland, and Norway. Greece ranked first, with 25 kilograms of cheese consumed per capita.

According to the International Trade Centre, in 2005 the United States ranked fourth in terms of the dollar value of cheese and curd imports. Germany ranked first.
