The U.S. ranks 89th in Hepatitis B vaccinations

According to the World Health Organization, 92% of one-year old children in the U.S. were vaccinated for Hepatitis B in 2009, which makes the United States tied for eighty-ninth in that category with Australia, Burundi, Colombia, Guatemala, North Korea, San Marino, Turkey, Tuvalu, and the United Arab Emirates. Several countries tied for first, with a 99% vaccination rate.

The U.S. ranks 62nd in prevalence of HIV

According to the World Bank, 0.6% of the U.S. population between the ages of 15 and 49 had HIV in 2007, which makes the United States tied for sixty-second with Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Switzerland, St. Lucia, and Uruguay in that category. Swaziland ranks first, with 26.1% of the population between the ages of 15 and 49 living with HIV.

In the world as a whole, 0.8% of the population between the ages of 15 and 49 are living with HIV.

The U.S. ranks 3rd in protected marine areas

According to the World Bank, 67.6% of the United States’ total marine surface area is protected by law, which makes the United States rank third in that category. Colombia ranks first, at 84.2%.

The U.S. ranks 2nd in cocaine seizures

According to UNODC, in 2006 the United States made 21% of the world’s total cocaine seizures, enough to make the United States rank second in that category. Colombia ranked first, with 26% of the world’s total cocaine seizures.

The U.S. ranks 99th in death by violence

According to the World Health Organization, in 2002, 5.4 out of every 100,000 Americans were killed by violence, a rate that makes the United States rank ninety-ninth in that category. Colombia ranked first, with 72.4 out of every 100,000 Colombians killed by violence.

The U.S. ranks 13th in threatened amphibians

According to the World Resources Institute, there are 53 threatened amphibian species in the United States, a number that makes the United States tied for thirteenth with Cameroon in that category. Colombia ranks first, with 209 threatened amphibian species.

The U.S. ranks 3rd in cut-flower exports

According to the USDA report, “World Horticultural Trade: July 2003 1 Trade Data Edition,” in 2002 the United States exported around forty-eight million dollars worth of cut flowers; about 4% of the world’s total cut-flower exports that year. That was enough to make the United States rank third in that category. Colombia ranked first, with 46% of the world’s cut-flower exports.
