The U.S. ranks 34th in olive oil

According to FAOStat, in 2007 there was an olive oil supply in the United States of 0.85 kilograms per person, which makes the United States rank thirty-fourth out of one hundred and seventy countries ranked in that category. Greece ranks first, with an olive oil supply of 15.91 kilograms per person.

According to the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, in 2007, the United States produced 1500 tonnes of virgin olive oil, a negligible amount of the world’s total, but enough to make it rank twenty-second in that category. Spain ranked first, producing 1,326,000 tonnes, which was 42% of the world total virgin olive oil production.
