According to the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, in 2006 the United States exported 156,789 tonnes of shelled peanuts–15% of the world’s total–which was enough to make it rank fourth in that category. China ranked first, with 234,362 tonnes of exports–21% of the world’s total. The other countries in the top five were India, Argentina, and the Netherlands. Together, these five countries accounted for 78% of total shelled peanut exports.
