The U.S. ranks 8th in rice imports
According to the International Trade Centre, in 2005 the United States imported $260,863,000 worth of rice, enough to make it rank eighth in that category. Saudi Arabia ranked first, importing $580,585,000 worth of rice.
The U.S. ranks 3rd in rice exports
According to the International Trade Centre, in 2005 the United States exported $1,290,696,000 worth of rice, or 15.1% of the world’s total, enough to make the United States rank third in that category. Thailand ranked first, exporting $2,321,682,000 worth of rice, or 27.1% of the world’s total.
The top five countries–Thailand, India, the United States, Pakistan, and Vietnam–acccounted for 79.8% of all rice exports.
The U.S. ranks 11th in rice production
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, in 2004 the United States ranked eleventh in tonnage of rice production. China ranked first.
