According to Pew, 14% of the population of the United States was born outside of the United States. That is enough to make the United States tied for twenty-fourth (with Latvia, Spain, and Norway) out of one hundred fifty-five countries ranked in that category. The United Arab Emirates ranked first, with 84% of its population being foreign born.
The U.S. ranks 26th in net migration
According to the CIA World Factbook, in 2012 the United States had a net migration rate of 3.62, which is enough to make the United States rank twenty-sixth out of two hundred twenty-one countries ranked in that category. Qatar ranks first, with a net migration rate of 40.62. According to the Factbook, “net migration” measures “the difference between the number of persons entering and leaving a country during the year per 1,000 persons.”
The US. ranks 32nd in emigrant remittances
According to the 2009 United Nations Development Report, emigrants from the United States remitted $2,972,000,000 back to the United States in 2007, which makes the United States rank thirty-second out of one-hundred-forty-six nations ranked in that category. India ranks first, with Indian emigrants remitting $35,262,000,000 back to India in 2007.
The U.S. ranks 1st in immigrant remittances
According to the 2009 United Nations Development Report, in 2007, immigrants in the United States sent $45,643,000,000 back to their home countries, which makes the United States rank first out of one hundred and forty nine countries ranked in that category.
The U.S. ranks 47th in emigrants to Asia
According to the 2009 United Nations Human Development Report, 20.1% of all emigrants from the United States reside in Asia, which makes the United States rank forty-seventh in that category. Nepal ranks first, with 95% of all Nepali emigrants living in Asia.
The U.S. ranks 8th in foreign-born population
According to the OECD, in 2005, 12.3% of the population of the United States was foreign-born, making the United States rank eighth among OECD countries in that category. Luxembourg ranks first, with a foreign-born percentage of 32.6.
