According to the Ookla Speedtest, the average internet download speed in the U.S. is 21.72 Mbps, which makes the United States rank thirty-third out of one hundred ninety economies ranked in that category. Hong Kong ranks first, with an average internet download speed of 72.54 Mbps. The top ten internet download speeds are:

According to a 2009 study by Gallup, 81% of American homes have internet access, which makes the United States rank ninth out of one-hundred-sixteen countries ranked in that category. Sweden ranks first, at 88%.
The U.S. ranks 15th in broadband access
According to the OECD, as of June 2009 there were 26.7 broadband internet subscriptions in the United States for every 100 Americans, which makes the United States rank fifteenth out of thirty OECD member nations. Then Netherlands ranks first, at 38.1 subscriptions per 100 inhabitants.

According to the OECD, broadband subscription rates in the United States increased by 3.26 per 100 inhabitants between December 2007 and December 2008. That rate of growth makes the United States rank seventh in that category. The Slovak Republic ranks first, with an increase of 3.81 per 100 inhabitants.
