The U.S. ranks 10th in offal consumption

According to the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, in 2003 the United States consumed 301,011 tonnes of edible offal, which made the United States rank tenth in that category. China, which ranked first, consumed 4,367,457 tonnes of edible offal.

Given this recent article in the New York Times, I thought I’d post this:

According to UNESCO, in 2004 there were five daily newspaper titles in the United States for every one million inhabitants, which made the United States rank fortieth in that category. Niue ranked first, with 628 newspaper titles for every one million inhabitants.

When just the top fifty countries in terms of daily newspaper titles are looked at, the United States ranks fourteenth in terms of the number of daily newspaper titles published per 1,000,000 inhabitants. Norway ranks first.

The U.S. ranks 99th in death by violence

According to the World Health Organization, in 2002, 5.4 out of every 100,000 Americans were killed by violence, a rate that makes the United States rank ninety-ninth in that category. Colombia ranked first, with 72.4 out of every 100,000 Colombians killed by violence.
